The first three sections of this sculpture were first modeled in solid clay, cut into sections, then hollowed out and put back together. Each section was treated in different ways to create the distinctive surfaces they required. Details like the fringe on the back of the Iguanas where added, using carving, sliptrailing, coil-building and texturing techniques. Layers of different underglaze colours where applied in thick & thin washes of colour. After a low temperature firing a very thin application of glaze was sprayed on the Iguanas and glossy glaze applied to the eyes.The section showing the carved image of the fossilized remains of a bird on one side and bees on the other was given its own treatment of glazes, oxides and stains. The top section was its own project again, requiring months of work being painstakingly hand built, detailed and coloured.
