This piece represents a moment in evolutionary history when amphibians began the process of transitioning to land. The structures of modern human’s brains still contain the vestiges of this apex predators’ traits.

This sculpture was first modeled in solid clay, cut into sections, then hollowed out and put back together. Embellishments like the teeth and boney ridges on the back where added, then the entire surface was carved, including the belly, creating the distinctive texture of crocodile skin. Layers of different greens, yellows and blue-grey underglazes where applied in thin washes of colour. After a low temperature firing a very thin application of glaze was sprayed on. The eyes where layered with glossy glaze the the piece was fired to maximum temperature.
